Good news that mysql is being updated, however what I'd really love to see is Postgres (with postgis geo extensions) on RDS!

How about an upgrade to Mysql 5.6...

Glad to have this — much as I'd prefer Postgres — but I noticed a bug in the upgrade process: I selected our custom parameter group when I queued the upgrade but it rebooted using the standard parameter group.
