For today's episode of The AWS Report, I spoke to Billy Cox, Director of Cloud Strategy for Intel. We discussed the genesis of cloud computing, some historical trends, and ways that Intel is optimizing their processors for cloud-style workloads.
I really enjoyed speaking with Billy and I think you'll be able to see this in the video!
If you would like to learn more about how Amazon and Intel are working together to make the cloud even more useful for Big Data and HPC workloads, visit our new Power of 60 site. You'll find some new and very relevant case studies, along with a special offer to help you get started with AWS.

It's interesting that Intel are spending time looking at whether chip architecture can be optimised for cloud style workloads i.e. applications running on the likes of Hadoop, Memcached and the LAMP stack were mentioned. This sounds like there will be some interesting developments coming in the future for cloud optimised hardware which will make a difference not only for Amazon internally but also for those deploying private cloud software.
Combined with the work from the Open Compute project this should hopefully see some real improvements not only in performance but also with power utilisation, which is still a big concern.
