Great. Also a price increase for RDS. Now even freaking more expensive.

Before this blog post (RDS large instance):
1year: 900
3years: 1400

After this blog post (RDS large instance):
1year: 1105
3years: 1700

Thats a whole lot more dollars. What do we get in exchange for that? Besides that we are subsidizing the medium and low utilization instances and other services?

Hi Justin,

All the old Reserved Instances exists as Medium RIs. The rates you are quoting are for High Utilization RIs, with a higher upfront fee but a lower hourly fee. They are the most economical option for customers who run their instance 80% or more of the time.
