We have to use "Forced Detach" a lot. But often we have to wait a couple of hours even if we use it before the volume can be attached again. Hope this will get better.


I believe the termination protection is only for EBS backed instance.


***Once activated for an EC2 instance, this feature blocks attempts to terminate an instance by way of the command line tools or the EC2 API***

I activated "Termination protection" now. If I hit "Terminate" from the console by accident, would it show me a warning or would it just terminate?

Rodney, the termination protection applies to images with an instance store (S3) and EBS backed.

Pothi, the console will display a message and refuse to terminate an instance if Termination Protection has been enabled. I will add another screen shot.
